Explore the Street of Fresh Flower Scents
Chelsea Flower District
Looking for a flower market in Manhattan? 28th Street between 6th and 7th avenue is the place you will see and smell fresh flowers, trees and plants. The entire avenue called Chelsea Flower Market is a gem for those who want to get the best and fresh-cut seasonal flowers, plants, silk flowers, supplies and more.
Early flower lovers can get fresh flowers in New York City as the stores open from 4 am to 12 pm. (Stores for silk flowers and supplies open till 4:30pm). Between 5am and 8am, the flower district is crowded with florists and customers who have licenses and business accounts to get the fresh and best quality flowers. After 8am till 12 pm, non-florists, housewives and other shoppers visit the market for the flowers at a good deal.
Unlike your local deli shops, flowers from the market are fresh and last longer. You can get various kinds of flowers as well as exotic products at a wholesale price.
The downside is quantity. Most stores don’t sell per stem. You have to purchase more than a bunch or a dozen. Prices are not listed. Though some stores accept a credit card, bringing cash and negotiating with owners is recommended.
Can’t make time during weekdays due to work? Don’t worry! The market is open Monday through Saturday. Plan your flower shopping on weekend.
